I was very fortunate to have been able to study Buddhism and other religions primarily across America, India, Nepal and Thailand. I spent a total of about a year and a half in Thailand and in my spare time I went to many outdoor flea markets all over their country in which I probably viewed thousands of Buddha image necklaces and this one is definitely the most beautiful. You won't find another with such fine detail and the artistic quality depicted in the posture /attitude of the Buddha's acquisition of his feminine nature was so beautifully represented as it rightly should be in any enlightened being. The photo I took has an elongated appearance do to the size of the image and the difficulty of taking a picture with my cheap phone while holding a magnifying glass. I paid $100.00 twenty years ago which was the marked price and considering Thailand twenty years ago that was an enormous amount of money. I think that I can safely say that it is a very rare rendering of the historical Buddha and not only have I personally never seen another to match its beautiful detail but many Thai collectors I ran into were taken back by its beauty and surprised that it was in the hands of a foreigner. All of which makes me very confident that it was made by a specific and talented artist and not for mass production. There are traditionally four specific postures /attitudes of the historical Buddha, sitting, standing, lying and walking. The first three were all created in India but the walking Buddha was created in Sukhothai the first capital of Thailand and means "The Dawn of Happiness". Thailand is credited with having the most public statues of the historical Buddha than anywhere else in the world. This little image points to some lone Thai artisan's pride in Thailand's culture and represents his personal love and practices of the powerful spiritual philosophies and psychologies of Buddhism. Timeless Truths that I have found to be Universal although not commonly known or practiced in all its depth and Glory.
